Alvaro Morata wants to join Milan and the club are keen to welcome the striker, but three aspects of the deal are reportedly holding up any progress.

The Rossoneri are in the market for a new centre forward and have identified the 30-year-old Spaniard as an intriguing option, aware that he could be a lower-cost option to bolster the frontline.

Morata himself is keen on the idea of returning to Italy and has seemingly put Milan as his priority over the interested Roma, who are still hoping to secure his signature this summer.

TMW details how three different elements of the deal are stopping Milan from finalising the arrival of Morata, any of which could cause the idea to collapse.

The first is these factors is his wages; Morata currently earns around €5-6m net per season, so would need to agree to lower this to €4m net.

The second factor is his €20m release clause. Atletico Madrid are refusing to offer any discounts, although they may be open to a loan deal with some form of permanence clause attached – possibly an obligation to buy, either conditional or definitive.

The final factor is the unavailability of the Growth Decree law, meaning Milan cannot offer as high wages as they could with other targets due to the increased costs.
