Inter President Erick Thohir has once again given his backing to Coach Walter Mazzarri – but warns he expects results.
The former Napoli tactician is under increasing pressure on the San Siro bench after the Nerazzurri’s poor start to the season, including a 2-2 draw at home to Verona last night.
The President has backed Mazzarri thus far, and has done so again in an interview released today, but has also warned that results must improve.
“I’ve never given [Mazzarri] and ultimatum, although I’ve read several times that I have,” Thohir told La Repubblica.
“I’ve said the same thing six or seven times, and I’ll say it again – I started this project with Mazzarri, and he can feel comfortable, we know that bringing a plan to fruition takes time.
“But at the same time you must also get results.
“We have a lot of injuries, which has hurt us but the team is good.”
The Indonesian businessman also discussed his relationship with Massimo Moratti, who stepped down from the Inter board last month after almost 20 years.
“It’s very good [the relationship with Moratti],” Thohir insisted.
“We see each other in Milan. I respect his decision [to step down] but he’ll always be a part of the club.
“He has a 30 per cent share, he’s a big fan of Inter and he’ll help us again in the future.
“I have enormous respect for him, in 18 years at Inter he won 16 trophies. I have nothing to compare to that. In fact, I’ve already said I can’t match his achievements.”
