The Nerazzurri have been active on the transfer market, but despite the takeover by Chinese giants Suning, both Banega and Erkin arrived as free agents from Sevilla and Fenerbahce respectively.
“I'm delighted to welcome Ever Banega to Inter. He's an extremely talented player, one of the best in the world in his position, and he's shown that at Sevilla and with Argentina,” Thohir told the club website.
“He's a fighter who's used to winning – he's already won some of the biggest trophies in the game. I'm sure the Nerazzurri fans will offer him the sort of welcome that a star of his calibre deserves and that he will be a key member of the successful Inter side we're looking to build.
“Banega's arrival follows the capture of another big player we signed before the start of the season: Caner Erkin. He's a player with loads of international experience who's played lots of games in the Champions League and is a mainstay of the Turkish national team.
“We have a top-quality squad and many of our players excelled at the Copa America and European Championship this summer.
“Now we need to keep working hard to fine-tune the squad and add players who can help us compete and succeed in our target of playing in the Champions League.
“With the arrival of Suning, we can continue strengthening Inter and pursue our aim of returning to our place among the world's top 10 clubs. We want to bring in talented players with big potential who can make a significant contribution immediately.
“Our management team are working with the coach to build an Inter side that can take us back where this club belongs while respecting UEFA's Financial Fair Play restrictions.”
