Another Carlo Tavecchio gaffe has emerged, in which he claimed women were “handicapped” in sports.
Another Carlo Tavecchio gaffe has emerged, in which he claimed women were “handicapped” in sports.
The front-runner for FIGC President is already at the centre of a storm over racist comments, but maintains the support of most Serie A, B and Lega Pro clubs.
Tuttosport dug up a video interview he recorded in May 2014 that shed further light on the 71-year-old’s gaffe-prone tendencies.
“We intend to give dignity to women in football on an aesthetic view as well,” he told RaiTre.
“Until now it was thought women were handicapped subjects compared to the male in stamina, resistance, physical and athletic terms.
“Instead, we have found they are very similar.”
Tavecchio had also criticised Milan joint-CEO Barbara Berlusconi in another interview.
“The dear lady does not decide on who will be nominated as the new President of the FIGC. It is down to the delegates of 1.5m registered members.”
Berlusconi had been against Tavecchio’s candidacy, but the other Milan CEO Adriano Galliani confirmed on Monday he was standing by the under-fire figure.
There are cracks forming in the alliance to elect him, as today Brescia formally withdrew their support for Tavecchio.
Demetrio Albertini is the only other candidate for FIGC President ahead of the election on August 11.
