“It is certainly a very important game for us, not just because we are playing Napoli and they are one point ahead of us in the table, but also because we’re coming off a good period of form with two straight wins in all competition,” the goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.
“It is important that we continue along this path and bridge the gap to Juventus.”
Szczesny has made some remarkable saves in past encounters with Roma, so which was his favourite?
“If I had to choose one, it’d be on Gonzalo Higuain in the first half at home. Pipita had done everything perfectly, a very angled drive at the end of a smart move.
“Often saves are affected by shots that aren’t perfect, but in that case I feel that it was a great save and a decisive one for the three points, seeing as we won the game.”
Napoli have lost their top scorer Milik to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament he sustained on international duty with Szczesny’s Poland.
“In these cases, you put rivalry to one side. Milik is above all a friend and a national teammate. He is going through a very bad time, it’s terrible news and a big loss for Napoli.
“It might suit us that he’s absent, but regrets remain to see him deal with such a serious injury.”
