Milan President Silvio Berlusconi confirms a special ceremony will be held to remember Cesare Maldini.

The former defender passed away on Saturday night at the age of 84, and was remembered by the world of calcio in this weekend’s fixtures.

“The great Cesare will be honoured,” Berlusconi said, announcing a special ceremony on Milan’s official website.

“My memories of him stem as a fan, and that Milan side that won the European Cup for the first time in 1963.

“I think that is a great memory, a moment that every Milan fan has in his mind because it was a great achievement. From then on we learned and we conquered more.”

Cesare’s son Paolo Maldini is also a Milan legend, while his grandson Christian is currently in the youth ranks.

The former Italy CT’s funeral is tomorrow, with Berlusconi and the Milan squad to attend the ceremony.
