Luciano Spalletti maintains Roma should be pleased at beating Pescara 3-2. “We’re not happy to be beautiful, we want to be winners.”
The Giallorossi were 2-0 up within 10 minutes, but still struggled to the final whistle and risked throwing the points away.
“It wasn’t a great performance, but we are in a moment of transformation. We’re not happy to be beautiful anymore, we want to be winners,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“Pescara could play without pressure, as they had nothing to lose in a fixture like this and that freedom really helped them to move the ball about well.
“We also wasted several chances, whereas Pescara took the two opportunities we granted them and almost got a third too.”
Edin Dzeko said if Roma play like this, they won’t win the derby next week.
“Then he should start playing better and we’ll all play better! Goals and assists are more noticeable, but there’s a lot of work to be done other than that, such as creating space and drawing defenders away,” continued Spalletti.
“I saw Genoa beat Juventus today, showing great physicality and determination, so that is something we really need to improve. At the same time, tonight we did some good things.
“We are working on the mentality of the players, but clearly if you are 2-0 up and see it as being too simple, you slow down, take an extra touch and don’t put in the same determination because of that cushion, the opposition is going to cause problems.
“Instead of controlling the game, we try to do the beautiful thing, give the ball away cheaply and make the complicated choices so chances go begging. Again today we wasted numerous scoring opportunities.
“There are no easy games and that means nothing becomes impossible. Any result can emerge in Serie A. I showed my team Pescara’s performance against Juventus last week, as until the 45th minute they were well in the game.”
Wojciech Szczesny was decisive with a couple of saves in a 15-minute spell where Pescara dominated. Why do these blackouts keep happening?
“He made a couple of good saves, the opposition goalkeeper did a bit more and there were a couple of errors in front of goal. It’s true we allowed a few too many chances, but it’s good that we are able to bring home a few results even without being beautiful. It is important to be clinical.
“Being beautiful is great, but in football you need to win. There’s no record of how well we played, just how many points we got.”
