Former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti praises Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano: ‘He’s beaten me many times, so he’s better than me…’

Spalletti spoke to Tuscan TV RTV38 about the Viola tactician, who was one of the candidates to replace him at the Stadio Maradona before the appointment of Rudi Garcia.

“Italiano has beaten me many times, so he’s better than me,” Spalletti said, smiling.

“His teams play modern football and if he manages to add balance, he will win and drag a city that loves football like Florence.”

Spalletti won’t take charge of a new team in 2023-24 and will take a sabbatical after winning the first Serie A title for Napoli in 33 years.

Italiano has remained at Fiorentina after reaching the Coppa Italia and Conference League Final in 2022-23. His contract at the Stadio Franchi runs out in June 2024.
