SPAL President Walter Mattioli urges Napoli target Alex Meret to “stay with us for another year and grow”.
The Udinese goalkeeper spent last season on loan with the Estensi, helping them to win promotion to Serie A.
It has been rumoured that he could join the Partenopei to eventually replace Pepe Reina, but the SPAL patron believes he should remain for another year to gain experience.
“Meret is a great goalkeeper, he can be among the best in Italy,” said Mattioli on Radio Crc.

“Just wearing the Napoli shirt is different from wearing SPAL’s, they have a different weight. Fundamentally though he’s a great goalkeeper.
“There are probably some clubs abroad willing to invest up to €20m and I’ve heard about Napoli too, I know they’re interested.
“It’s up to Udinese to handle the various negotiations, I can only recommend to him to stay with us for another year and grow in the provinces.”
