The Coach held a Press conference after the 2-2 Europa League draw with Basel, which leaves them needing only a point against Belenenses to progress.
“The team is improving, above all in terms of character. We are able to make decisions more quickly, even in difficult situations. We are maturing and I have faith in the future.”
The Viola released an image of Kalinic’s bruised and battered knees after the Basel game, complaining he was not protected by the officials.
“Nikola is a player in love with football and he moves a lot, which is why he gets kicked so much. The refereeing rules are clear, but we need consistency and respect for players.”
Fiorentina also fell foul of the referee when Facundo Roncaglia was sent off for a blatant elbow on Breel Embolo.
“He is ready to help the team and working to avoid a repeat incident. I consider him important for Fiorentina,” said Sousa.
“The team used up a lot of energy in Switzerland, today we rested and tomorrow will begin strategizing for the Sassuolo match.
“Sassuolo work very well during their games, pressing in every area of the pitch. I already started studying them on Friday along with my staff.
“They have interesting characteristics, starting from the stability of the Coach. This club plans well in advance and this brings excellent results. The individual players also have a lot of quality.
“Sassuolo are a side who can fight for the top positions, as they are already doing this season. It will be a difficult match.”
Fiorentina are only two points off Serie A leaders Inter, who travel to Napoli on Monday night.
“We started the season with a precise idea of where our work would lead. We want to continue improving to achieve results and confidence. That is what I’m working for and I will need everyone to contribute.”
