The Viola are top of the Serie A table alongside Inter and got back on track in the Europa League with a 2-0 victory away to Lech Poznan.
When asked this week, Josip Ilicic and Federico Bernardeschi said they’d rather win the Scudetto than Europa League.
“I am pleased that my players work towards big objectives. Personally, I want to have a winning mentality in every game. The competition is irrelevant.
“Is this the right year to win? Every year can be right to win something. The more we all work in the same direction, the closer we'll get to our dreams.
“This will be a very difficult match, above all after we played in Poland on Thursday evening, but my lads showed they give their best under pressure.
“Sampdoria are solid at the back and lethal on the counter. They have great forwards, but we can control the game, try to score and move well defensively too.”
Sousa confirmed Jakub Blaszczykowski is out of action with a bruised foot and discussed potentially using Nikola Kalinic and Khouma Babacar together.
“We have already tried them together and I won’t rule out it could happen again. They are two compatible players.”
