Wesley Sneijder believes last night's 1-0 victory over FC Twente is the first step on Inter's road to redemption this season.

The win was Inter's first in five games and qualified the holders for the Champions League knock out stages with a game to spare.

Wesley Sneijder believes last night's 1-0 victory over FC Twente is the first step on Inter's road to redemption this season.

The win was Inter's first in five games and qualified the holders for the Champions League knock out stages with a game to spare.

Interviewed on UEFA.com, Sneijder said: "Over two legs anything can happen but this result has given us a lot of confidence and we have to push on.

"We have to win it again. We have to do it because we are the holders. Why not? We have some important players to come back soon so we can go for it.

"We are going through a difficult spell but we knew before the game that if we won we would go through.

"We created a lot of openings and it's a pity we didn't score more but the most important thing is that we won and we're through.

"We knew that Twente have a strong team, they are very well-organised, so we were expecting a difficult match, but we did well from the start.

"We could have made life easier for ourselves by scoring more but in the end we won and we are really happy.

"It doesn't matter who we play in the next round. Last year we played Chelsea and Barcelona – we played a lot of good teams before we reached the Final so I don't think it matters," he concluded.
