The Spain Under-21 international turns 22 next month and is a product of the Barcelona youth academy, after a very early spell in the Espanyol school.
He has made 13 competitive appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
The highlight of his campaign is the goal scored in Barca’s Champions League victory over Inter on December 10.
His contract at Camp Nou is due to expire in June 2022 and it remains to be seen if this will be a permanent deal, or a loan with option or even obligation to buy.
Perez has been left out of the Barcelona squad for this weekend by new coach Quique Setien.
He is seen as an ideal replacement for Nicolò Zaniolo, who is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
However, Perez isn't the only candidate, as Roma are also continuing negotiations for Real Sociedad forward Adnan Januzaj, as confirmed by his agent.
