Gigi Simoni is confident Walter Mazzarri will bring the best out of Inter. “He is a winner who worked miracles, but this is no simple task.”
The Nerazzurri are out of Europe for the first time in 14 years and fired Andrea Stramaccioni on Friday evening, putting the former Napoli boss under a two-year contract.
“It’s certain that Mazzarri is a great Coach and worked well everywhere,” ex-Inter tactician Simoni told TMW.
“He also has experience, which is important in a difficult arena. Mazzarri is a winner who worked miracles in the past, particularly when saving Reggina from relegation, but this is no simple task. It will take time and the club must give that to him.”
Stramaccioni had tried to implement the three-man defence, which with Mazzarri is set to become the mainstay at San Siro.
“Inter already began their revolution last year, then unfortunately it all went up in the air due to this series of injuries, so players had to perform out of position to plug the gaps,” continued Simoni.
“It is evident they must start from scratch and that won’t be easy. I must say that Fredy Guarin and Rodrigo Palacio are well suited to his style of counter-attacking football, but for other roles Mazzarri doesn’t have the suitable alternatives.”
