“I see a Catania side that is growing, but in Italy all you see is the result,” moaned ex-Lazio and Inter legend Simeone.

“We need the support of our fans, especially this weekend against Lecce. They are only one point ahead of us and we are improving constantly, so the table could be transformed in only a few weeks.

“The only way to make that work count is to score and win, which means more determination in both boxes. The scoring rate is the only thing that I'm not satisfied with so far.

“We must not look at what the other teams are doing, but focus only on ourselves. Lecce are a tough opponent, aggressive in midfield and quick when passing the ball.”

Simeone had hoped to welcome January signing Gonzalo Bergessio to the squad, but his international transfer has not yet come through.

“The club is working on it and we are waiting for him, as Bergessio is an important player.”
