It is often said in Italy that a Coach at risk ‘won’t get to eat his panettone,’ meaning he will be gone before the traditional Christmas cake is served.

Mangia was one of those most likely to face the axe, so he marked the occasion by walking into the media room with a panettone in his arms.

“I’ve never taken part in a derby at this level before, but I realised this is the mother of all games,” he said before taking on local rivals Catania.

“Palermo have all the necessary resources to do well in this derby. We prepared it the right way and I say that because I saw what we need to really make our mark on Catania.”

The Rosanero need a boost, as they are coming off two consecutive defeats to Cesena in Serie A and Siena in the Coppa Italia.
