The conflict of interests that kept Marcello Lippi from the Azzurri could extend to the entirety of Serie A, threatening jobs everywhere.
The former World Cup-winning Coach was set to be appointed as a technical director for the Italian Federation after Euro 2016, with a view of getting him to lend a hand in the Azzurri's reconstruction.
However, the revelation that Lippi's son Davide works as a football agent highlighted a potential conflict of interests. The federation refused to make a decision and referred to the Court of Appeal, but Lippi backed down from the position before their judgment could be returned.
Now Calcio e Finanza report that the Court of Appeal has spoken out, and they confirmed the rule that anyone who has 'a professional or other type of relationship' with 'a FIGC employee, director, footballer or Coach', as per the rules, cannot work as a football agent.
Furthermore this rule applies not only to the federation, but to anyone else working in Serie A's clubs.
This verdict was passed on to the commission that deals with football agents in Italy, which will now have to review all of their cases.
There are currently many agents who have a family bond with somebody working in one of Serie A's clubs or within the Italian federation, and they all risk being suspended from their jobs.
The results of suspending such a high number of football agents working within the Italian league at the same time are unpredictable, but the effects could potentially be enormous.
