Conte was their first choice, but openly ruled out a move to the Stadio Olimpico, as he remains on the radars of Inter and Juventus.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Semplici is the latest candidate for the Roma job.

He managed to steer SPAL from Serie C to the top flight and secured their Serie A status this term with several rounds to spare.

Having taken over in December 2014, Semplici has helped develop an attractive, attack-minded passing game at SPAL.

It is that kind of approach that President James Pallotta is hoping to bring to Roma.

Semplici, who turns 52 this summer and is a self-confessed Fiorentina fan, admitted in recent interviews that he would have to sit down with the club directors to decide if he’d continue in his current role.
