SPAL Coach Leonardo Semplici says his side’s safety is getting ‘closer’ after a vital win over Benevento.

Having struggled earlier on in the season, the Biancazzuri have won two consecutive matches and have now lost just once in their last 11 Serie A matches.

However, they remain just two points above the relegation zone in what is shaping up to be one of the tightest survival battles in years.

“There was a little tension,” Semplici admitted after the 2-0 victory over the relegated Streghe.

“We prepared the match in order to not give away good goalscoring opportunities.

“We started well covered, in order to take advantage of our characteristics.

“The match went in the right way, we got three points which take us closer to our target.

“The consecutive good results have made the boys realise what they are capable of.

“We are on course for an achievement that seemed very difficult. We believe and we want to go and get it.

“It has been a difficult journey, very demanding. The boys have matured.

“We keep our feet on the ground, now we have to think about the match against Torino.”
