SPAL boss Leonardo Semplici isn’t looking for alibis or excuses after a 1-0 home defeat to Brescia. “This is one of the worst periods since I arrived as coach.”

The Ferrara side are now rock bottom of the Serie A table after their latest defeat, but Semplici states that they aren’t giving up.

“We will try to improve like we have always done, by trying to grow and to believe in the potential of the boys. Today they wanted to look for a victory that would’ve brought us closer to our true position in the table. We’re sorry," he said in his press conference.

“This season is a formative experience for me. This is one of the worst periods since I’ve arrived at the club. I never look for alibis or excuses.

“I always take responsibility and won’t hide away. Those who were on the field gave everything today.”

Andrea Petagna had the opportunity to equalise a Mario Balotelli opener, but saw his penalty saved by Jesse Joronen.

Despite the defeat, Semplici doesn’t believe he is in danger of getting sacked.

“When I accepted this year to remain, it was because it seemed the correct choice and because I have shared the project with the club.

“These are questions that you shouldn’t ask me. I believe that I arrive on the pitch every time with the same desire to improve us.”

SPAL are rooted to the bottom of the table, with only two wins from 15 games.
