Sampdoria and Italy striker Eder has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Blucerchiati’s official website confirmed today that the forward underwent tests at the club’s medical centre today after he was hurt in Sunday evening’s 4-2 defeat to Napoli.

“Magnetic resonance imaging performed by the UC Sampdoria medical staff revealed a sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his left knee,” the club announced.

“The striker’s season should be considered over.

Eder has been one of the stars of Sampdoria’s stunning season, scoring nine Serie A goals in 30 appearances.

The 28-year-old was even called up by Antonio Conte to the Italy squad in March, scoring a vital equaliser against Bulgaria on his international debut.
