Gianluca Scamacca broke his Atalanta duck with a brace and is more convinced than ever he made the right decision leaving West Ham for Bergamo. ‘It is the right club for my next step.’

The centre-forward had his first start after two substitute appearances and made an immediate impact, bagging two goals in the 3-0 victory over Monza.

There was a towering header and a left-foot strike from the edge of the area, while a third goal was ruled narrowly offside.

“All you need to do is see tonight to realise why I came here,” Scamacca told DAZN.

“There is so much enthusiasm here, it is wonderful playing in front of all these fans. It is an ambitious club with great players.

“I think Atalanta is the right context for me to work in, so I am happy to have come here. It is the right club for me to make the next step in my career.”

The former Sassuolo hitman had also been on the verge of a move to Inter over the summer, until Atalanta came in with a better offer and he jumped at the chance to sign for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men.

Like his old club West Ham United, Atalanta are also competing in the Europa League this season and were placed in a group with Sporting CP, Sturm Graz and Rakow Czestochowa.
