Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri was in no mood to talk about transfers during his first press conference of the season: ‘Ask Lotito or Fabiani, otherwise, I’ll stand up and go.’
The Biancocelesti make their 2023-24 Serie A debut away at Lecce tomorrow, and Sarri only wanted to talk about pitch-related issues during his first meeting with the media in 2023-24.
“It will be a tough season, there are teams that are better than us,” he said.
“We wasted a lot of energy in cup games last season and I don’t think it will happen again this time around. Serie A is slightly improving.
“We have improved as a team, now let’s see on the pitch,” he continued.
“Almost all new signings are a little behind, especially Rovella who has been recovering from an injury. Kamada hasn’t played for a while, while Isaksen is fresh but is still learning tactical notions.”
Kamada has moved to the Stadio Olimpico to replace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Sarri seems quite happy with the Japan international.
“He plays in the same position but with different characteristics. He doesn’t have the same strength as Sergio [Sarri called him by an Italian nickname], so we’ll play differently.”
When asked if he needs new signings to complete the team, Sarri replied angrily: “It’s a scandal that the market is open with the season about to begin.
“I won’t talk about transfers 24 hours before a game. If the window lasted 10 days, agents would not have all this power. We’ll go to the pitch with some players on the market and 75% of the transfer stories you [journalists] have written about me were untrue. Luckily football is not a serious matter. If this is the level of information for serious things, then I am worried. I won’t talk about transfers, call Lotito or Fabiani to do so otherwise I’ll stand up and go.”
