Maurizio Sarri believes Napoli “absolutely dominated Sassuolo, but didn’t get an obviously deserved victory” in the 1-1 draw.
Lorenzo Insigne’s strike had given them the half-time advantage, but a stunning Gregoire Defrel volley silenced the Stadio San Paolo.
“We continue to put in good performances and the results still don’t come,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
“Today we absolutely dominated, but didn’t get an obviously deserved victory. We miss something in terms of determination to finish games off.
“We barely allow the opposition anything, but the moment they do get a chance, they score. We are also unlucky at the moment, because Jose Callejon hitting the post in the last minute practically defied the laws of physics, as it swerved outwards.”
Do Napoli simply miss a centre-forward?
“I don’t know, but the team is creating many opportunities and the sensation is we could score more. There were spells today when we played wonderful football, then others when we were almost resting on our laurels.
“This is something we need to work on. The team appears to be immature and still has an adolescent mentality. The game was completely in our hands and we could’ve finished it.
“I saw a performance of quality from everyone, not just Insigne, so I am very satisfied in that sense.”
Sarri was also asked why Nikola Maksimovic barely features and summer signing Marko Rog hasn’t yet made his debut.
“Maksimovic played five or six games in quick succession, but right now Kalidou Koulibaly needs a defensive partner capable of guiding him. Vlad Chiriches has been with us for over a year, so he knows the movements.
“Rog is very young, he comes from another culture and arrived without understanding a word of Italian. I think that at this stage he is almost ready. If we had gone 2-0 up, I probably would’ve introduced him tonight.”
