Roma’s assertion came after his Coach Dorival Junior suggested Santos should look to sign ageing stars such as Franck Ribery, Yaya Toure and even Totti, whose contract remains due to expire at the end of the season.
However, he was more enthusiastic about bringing back Gabigol, who appears set to leave Inter next month after playing just 16 minutes for the Nerazzurri since his big-money arrival from the Brazilian club.
“Bringing in players of this magnitude requires a marketing strategy like the one that took Ronaldo to Corinthians,” the patron told Fox Sports.
“Perhaps, for Santos, it’s more interesting to bring in players like Robinho and Gabigol, who are better suited to the profile we’re looking for.
“Our priority is to win four trophies next year. This is why I’d prefer players who are in the prime of their careers, like Robinho and Gabigol.
“If Gabriel wanted to come back, the doors would always be open for him. This is his home.”
