“It’s a motivation for rebirth, redemption,” Santon explained.
“I came here to show everyone how much I can give. I can play on either side, I have no preferences.

“I came here to show everyone how much I can give. I can play on either side, I have no preferences.
“What I need to do is train hard to return to the level I was at in the past, then the Coach will decide. I can assure you that I am here to give my best, I hope to carve out an important place. “I consider myself a player who can play every game, even every three days, like the others.
“I’ve had knee surgery and sometimes I have to be careful, but that doesn’ mean skipping a game, but maybe if there’s a double training session I have to rest in the afternoon.
“The knee is fine though, I feel good.”
The 27-year-old has been capped eight times by Italy, but hasn’t featured for his country since 2013, so is he aiming to return to the Azzurri setup?
“Of course. [Roberto] Mancini is a great Coach, he deserves to be where he is and I’ve always thought the most important thing is to play well for your club.
“The national team is a reward for your club form, so if my performances are up to scratch I’ll be back in the national team.”
