Sabatini was officially unveiled as Daniele Prade’s successor on Monday, and he expressed his delight at ‘paying off a debt’ he owed to the club, having gone back on a previous agreement to join Roma in 2011.
“I consider coming to Sampdoria as an extraordinary thing in my professional life because it allows me to pay off a debt I had for seven years, when I reached an agreement with Riccardo Garrone but had to disregard it [for Roma],” began the former Lazio and Palermo man.
“A one-year contract? I’m used to it, I don’t like committing myself for too long to the club I work for. if they’re happy with me, it’ll be natural for us to go forward together.
“I like challenges. I’m working under the idea I’m at Juventus, Inter or Roma. I don’t want to compare Samp to those clubs, but if I don’t have this feeling of questioning myself, I get bored.
“Giampaolo? He’s an added value, one of the best Coaches in Europe and I consider him very close to perfection.
“Sampdoria have had some extraordinary games under him, playing at the highest level by breaking down, not just beating, some great teams, although they fell away…”
