In his official presentation to the Press, Rudiger started by discussing his personal targets and mentioned Germany Coach Joachim Loew.

“My objective is to reach the highest success and do my best,” he said.

“I spoke with Loew about my transfer. He likes [Coach Rudi] Garcia's playing style.

“My role is that of a central defender, but I've played on the right too. It's obvious that I have a lot of room for improvement, I'm only 22.

“As for Daniele De Rossi's employment as a central defender, it was tactical. The Coach has four central defenders plus [Elio] Capradossi, De Rossi represents an extra opportunity.”

Rudiger was also asked about how his transfer to Roma affected his prospects for Euro 2016.

“I think it was a very positive thing. I'm at one of the best clubs and I'm satisfied.

“I started training yesterday. At the moment I have no pain from my earlier injury, but the Coach will decide.

“[Medhi] Benatia? He gave his contribution but I'm Rudiger, I'll do the best I can.”
