Argentina’s first choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero surprised everyone by going into Serie B with Sampdoria, but says “it was a gamble that paid off.”
The shot-stopper was a shock buy for the Blucerchiati last season and can finally make his Serie A debut after helping them earn promotion.
“I am giving my first Press conference, because I don’t really like giving interviews. I am reserved and quite shy. I don’t use Twitter or Facebook,” he explained.
“I am very happy to be here. I like the club, my family is happy in Genoa and as long as my wife and daughter continue to be happy, then I will continue wearing the Samp jersey for many years.
“I was prepared to stay in Serie B for another year. I knew when I arrived that coming to Sampdoria was a gamble, but I like a challenge and thankfully it paid off as we are now in Serie A.
“It wasn’t easy for Argentina to keep picking a goalkeeper who played in Serie B, but it all went well. Now they too can say they have a goalkeeper who plays in Serie A.”
Meanwhile, Sampdoria have agreed to sell midfielder Paolo Sammarco to Spezia.
