Cristian Romero believes joining Atalanta on loan from Juventus was ‘the right choice for me, as they proved they’re one of the best sides in Italy.’
The defender was purchased by Juve for €26m in 2019, but loaned back to Genoa in order to continue his development.
Now he has been given to Atalanta on a two-year loan with option to buy for a total of €18m plus bonuses.

“I am very happy to be here at a great club,” Romero told the official Atalanta website.
“We’re talking about a team that proved to all of Italy it is one of the best sides in the country. I think this was the right choice for me, so I can continue to grow and give my best.
“I thank Genoa, who brought me to Italy from Argentina. I am still young and my objective is to reach the Argentina international team,” added the 22-year-old.
“I believe that I can achieve that by playing for Atalanta. Playing in the Champions League is a dream for me, I’d only ever watched those games on TV.”
Romero shouldn’t have too many difficulties adapting to Gian Piero Gasperini’s tactics, as he already worked with Gasperini’s protégé Ivan Juric at Genoa.
“Juric is a great coach who allowed me to improve so much by playing in Serie A. They told me Gasperini is very similar, so I hope to make that transition.”
