Inter have confirmed the arrival of Rodrigo Palacio, but Genoa President Enrico Preziosi reveals “Roma made a better offer.”
This evening Palacio was spotted leaving the Nerazzurri headquarters and director Marco Branca told waiting journalists: “It’s done. We can say Palacio is an Inter player.”
Genoa patron Preziosi had announced the deal earlier this week and has now given a little more background to the move.
“I did everything I could to keep hold of Palacio,” he told Radio Manà Manà. The transfer is believed to be worth €11m.
“He had three wonderful seasons with us, giving his all on the field and off it. Inter don’t know what a great bargain they’ve got.
“I signed Alberto Gilardino in January precisely to form a great strike partnership with Palacio, but then this is the way it went.
“Roma actually made a better offer, over €2m more than Inter’s proposal, but I had shaken Massimo Moratti’s hand just three hours earlier.”
Preziosi also stated there were “no negotiations with Roma” for Alexander Merkel or Andreas Granqvist.
Genoa are yet to decide on their Coach for next season, as Gigi De Canio rescued them from relegation when taking over in the final weeks, but Gigi Del Neri has been strongly linked with the bench.
“I am leaning towards confirming De Canio. There is a degree of gratitude, but also the awareness he can do well here. Next week we will resolve the issue on the Coach and a new director of sport.”
