Following on from President James Pallotta's statements 10 days ago that the new ground will make Romans proud, the mayor of the city lent further support to the project.

“It's going to move €1.5bn in investment and will create 3,000 jobs in the construction phase alone,” said Marino to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It's going to be the safest and technologically most advanced stadium on planet earth.
“I'm convinced we'll lay down the first stone this year, and will open the stadium in 2017.
“I hope we'll no longer fear for our safety over Roma and Lazio games. The tragedy of Ciro Esposito [the Napoli fan shot in May by a Roma ultra] should be a point of no return.
“I'd like to ask the Romanisti and the Laziali that will be at the derby on January 11 to give us no news for the following day but those on the pitch.”
