Roma are preparing to tie-down Radja Nainggolan to a new deal, after Miralem Pjanic joined Juventus.

The Bianconeri activated a release clause in the contract of the Bosnian playmaker, whose move to Turin was made official yesterday.

With Nainggolan linked with a move to Chelsea, the Lupi risk losing two of their key midfielders in one summer, and are keen to secure the Belgian international.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi have met with the player’s agent to open talks for a contract renewal.

While an official agreement is some way off, it’s thought the Roma hierarchy have indicated their willingness to increase Nainggolan’s wage significantly compared to the €3m plus bonuses he currently receives.

There are two conditions in which the former Cagliari man could still leave, however.

If Nainggolan were to demand a salary of over €5m per season, Roma would be unwilling to break their wage structure, though there is no indication that the player is asking for such a figure.

The other variable is an irrefutable offer from Chelsea, which would be a figure of more than €40m [£31.7m].
