Damiano Tommasi has cautiously played down Roma’s chances of winning the Serie A title. “They were not built for the Scudetto.”
The former Giallorosso midfielder, now head of the Italian Players’ Association, spoke to Sky Sport Italia this afternoon about the title race.
“Roma have done a lot already this season, but they are still only three points clear of Juventus and Napoli,” he said of a club who have won 10 and drawn one game so far this campaign.
“That demonstrates that the three teams at the top of the table are doing some incredible things,” he added.
“Roma, however, have not been built to target the title and this could weigh them down – especially when we get to spring.
“We’ll have to see where Roma are in the table at that time of the year to understand whether they can go for the Scudetto or not.
“But, while they are in front of everyone else, it is only right that they believe they can do it.”
Roma could extend their lead at the top of the table this weekend as they host struggling Sassuolo. Meanwhile, Juventus and Napoli will face each other in Turin.
