Gianni Rivera is optimistic that Italy can have a good European Championship despite his doubts over the squad’s quality.
“Boss Cesare Prandelli is doing really well with the material that he has at his disposal,” stated the former Milan playmaker.
“I think we can leave a good impression on the competition. There isn’t a lot to work with, but the Coach has done well so far.
“And who knows, perhaps there can be a surprise after we won a World Cup that nobody expected…”
Italy start their campaign on June 10 against holders Spain. They’ll also have to get past Croatia and the Republic of Ireland in the group phase.
Rivera was a member of Italy’s 1968 European Championship side – their only success in the competition’s history.
