With Lazio keen to move on from Saturday’s heavy defeat in Tuscany, Edy Reja has promised a strong reaction will follow from the Lazio players.

The Aquile fell to a surprising and resounding 4-0 defeat to Siena in Serie A’s first match of the calendar year, something that Reja immediately apologised for after the final whistle.

Speaking on Monday, the 66-year-old Coach reiterated that message to fans.

“There is no excuses for the performance at Siena, you cannot argue with a game of this kind because we produced a performance below the quality of Lazio.

“This is a group and when this happens all are responsible, including the Coach. I hope that this expierence is used to start again from, so we can return to better times at Lazio.”

President Claudio Lotito and sporting director Igli Tare held a 40-minute meeting with the players on Sunday morning at training, to reportedly make clear that the recent performances to Siena and Chievo were unacceptable.

“The President’s intervention was right and he had every reason to do so,” admitted Reja. “The confrontation with the guys in the dressing room ended with the belief that there must be a reaction. We all agree that a general performance is not acceptable.

“If the team does continue in this way, we will need to reflect on the situation and find a solution.

“We have said that we will turn a page and start again tomorrow in the Coppa Italia match with Hellas Verona.

“Tomorrow I will put together the strongest team available to try to go through, this is our will. I think there will be five or six changes, with respect to Saturday.”
