Referee designator Gianluca Rocchi has decided to punish Davide Ghersini for his poor officiating in Lazio’s 1-0 loss to Torino.

The 38-year-old Italian referee made a number of frustrating decisions, or lack thereof, throughout the Biancocelesti’s defeat to the Granata on Saturday, leading Maurizio Sarri to complain about his work in the post-match press conference.

Ghersini has split his time between Serie A and Serie B this season, officiating seven games in the topflight and seven in the second division.

Corriere dello Sport reports that Rocchi has decided that Ghersini should be punished for his work in Lazio’s loss to Torino, so the 38-year-old official will be left out for two weekends before returning to Serie B in mid-May.

Despite the defeat, Lazio still sit second in the Serie A table, but the top four race is still a constant source of pressure. Only nine points separate Maurizio Sarri’s side from 7th place Atalanta.
