The Italian was given the Bearzot Prize today for the best Italian Coach, and spoke to reporters at the ceremony.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet,” Ranieri admitted.
“I’ve had letters from all over the world. This is the most important satisfaction of my career, but don’t forget Cagliari, which was my first ‘Scudetto’.

“I’ve had letters from all over the world. This is the most important satisfaction of my career, but don’t forget Cagliari, which was my first ‘Scudetto’.
“I came from the amateur Leagues, and no-one handed me anything on a plate. I started my climb from there, but I’m the same man who failed with Greece.
“I’m a proud man to receive the Bearzot prize.”
Ranieri was also asked about Italy CT Antonio Conte, who will take over at Chelsea after this summer’s European Championships.
“Antonio is doing very well with the national team, and I expect him to in England, he’ll do very well.
“The the young lads though, I’d say never give up. I was rejected twice by Roma, and then Il Mago [Helenio Herrera] took me there. I had a good career, and then I decided to be a Coach, a job I didn’t even want to do at first.
“Never give up.”
