Sampdoria midfielder Gaston Ramirez says that Claudio Ranieri has done a good job with the team defensively, but they have to start "scoring goals."

Since Ranieri has taken charge, Samp have only scored three goals, with a 1-0 win over SPAL their lone victory, and Ramirez says the time must come for the team to attack as well as sort out their leaky defence.

"It's true that we are in a difficult situation, every point is important and contributes to improve the situation," the trequartista told Sky Sport Italia.

"We cannot just play only to defend, but this is an important aspect that we missed because we conceded too many goals. Ranieri has worked well with us on this aspect and now we want to do better, because you win games by scoring goals."

Ramirez hasn't had the career that many expected him to have when he burst on to the scene with Bologna at the start of the decade, so does he have any regrets?

"Every year that passes, one wants to do better, to improve. I have confidence in myself, and I think I can do better than I've done so far. The coach gives me a lot of confidence."

Ramirez has played five games for Samp this season, scoring once.
