Juventus excluded many big names this summer under Thiago Motta and there are fresh reports captain Danilo could be next on the chopping block.

The Bianconeri have transformed their squad since the new coach took over from Max Allegri, pushing out the likes of Wojciech Szczesny, Federico Chiesa and Mattia De Sciglio.

Danilo has been struggling with a heel issue in recent weeks and barely spent five minutes on the pitch this season.

Thiago Motta sees Danilo as second choice

According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, this is not just down to an injury, as the Brazilian veteran is not considered part of Thiago Motta’s plans.

He turned 33 in July and is expected to start this evening for Brazil as captain against Ecuador in the 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Federico Gatti and Gleison Bremer seem to have the spots locked down at Juventus, leaving Danilo very little room to get back in.

His contract expires at the end of the season, but there is a clause to automatically renew to June 2026 if he plays at least 45 minutes in 50 per cent of their games.

  1. I never see him as “a good captain”, was surprised when he was appointed as the new captain then.
