Genoa President Enrico Preziosi defends his decision to sack Davide Ballardini and bring back Ivan Juric – “believe me, I’m not crazy”.

In a surprise move this week the Italian was sacked, despite having won three of the last five games and his side sitting three points off fourth with a game in hand.

Juric, who has already been sacked twice and has a win record of 25 per cent with the Rossoblu, was brought back to replace him.

“It wasn’t the table that worried me,” Preziosi explained on TeleNord.

“The team on the pitch never gave me reason to be satisfied. I saw a team in trouble.

“My choices don’t need to have the consent of the fans, I’ve been in football for 30 years and, believe me, I’m not crazy.

“If we’re talking about points then we have more than we thought, but that’s not the problem. I look at the team on the pitch and they’ve never given me cause to be satisfied.

“Often the performances have been masked by players who have had extraordinary games, such as [Krzysztof] Piątek and [Christian] Kouamé. But the team has never satisfied me in seven games.

“Aside from Lazio and Sassuolo, who perhaps have better squads, we’ve conceded 12 goals in three games. I see a team in disarray, which doesn’t know how to set up on the pitch.

“With Empoli we suffered, against Bologna it took a huge effort. Those things aren’t my fault.

“I spoke to Juric for three hours, I found a more mature, changed man. I think he’s a real Coach and can give us some satisfaction in terms of how we play.”
