Corriere dello Sport are reporting that Lazio striker Helder Postiga may require surgery in order to rid him of a back problem he has been suffering from.
The player arrived at the Stadio Olimpico on-loan from Valencia in January but has yet to make his debut for the Biancoceleste.
While upon arrival Lazio knew the player was carrying a minor calf injury, they expected him to make a quick recovery but this never materialised and now it is reported his condition is not improving.
Undergoing surgery would mean that the Portuguese forward would return to his parent club without ever having appeared for the Rome outfit.
It would also put an end to his hopes of making Portugal’s World Cup squad this summer and this is presenting a real dilemma to player and club.
Valencia’s priority is said to be to have the player fit in time for the start of next season, while Postiga is desperate to represent his country in Brazil.
It is thought the situation is being monitored closely. Should there be no sign of improvement in the near future, doctors from the Spanish club will fly to Rome to discuss the player’s next move.
