Miralem Pjanic was “so sorry it ended this way” for sacked Roma Coach Zdenek Zeman, as caretaker manager Aurelio Andreazzoli takes charge.
The Giallorossi fired Zeman on Saturday afternoon following their 4-2 home defeat to Cagliari, handing the reins to member of staff Andreazzoli.
There are reports that Roma directors tried repeatedly to phone Zeman with the news, but could not reach him because he was out playing golf, so Franco Baldini eventually sent him a text message.
“It was certainly not an easy decision for our directors to make,” wrote Pjanic on his Facebook page.
“I am so sorry it ended this way and I wish the Coach all the best. Now we must turn over a new leaf and I ask all of you to be united so we can bring normality back and emerge from this situation for the good of our Roma!”
Andreazzoli was Luciano Spalletti’s assistant manager and remained at the club as technical coach.
It is reported he will bring back the 4-2-3-1 system that proved so successful under Spalletti, dropping Ivan Piris and returning Daniele De Rossi to the starting XI with Michael Bradley.
Erik Lamela, Totti and Alessandro Florenzi or Pjanic would then support lone striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo or Mattia Destro.
