David Pizarro announced he wants to “come back to Serie A in January” and is cheering on Roma against Inter this evening.
The Chile international had been in Italy for most of his career at Udinese, Roma, Inter and Fiorentina, but made a lifestyle choice when returning to Santiago Wanderers this summer.
“In Chile I found the football system just doesn’t work. We won the Copa America, but there are marvellous stadiums with only about 300 people in them,” Pizarro told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The clubs are disinterested, as they know that the TV rights will keep them afloat anyway. I returned for love of my country, not to escape Italy. It was a horrible blow. I wish I could’ve worked as Minister for Sport in Chile.
“The national team was unable to push forward the football system and there’s no talent in the new generations. This is why I want to come back to Italy. Right away, as soon as January.
“I’ve never had serious injuries, so am in good shape for 36, and without arrogance I can guarantee quality, which is increasingly rare. Frankly, I’d feel ready for a big club.”
The prime candidates are Roma and Pizarro is cheering them on tonight against another of his former clubs.
“My heart takes me to Roma. It’s the team that remained in my heart the most and the city where I’d love to live again.
“It’s wonderful to think that tonight’s game is worth the top of the Serie A table. I predict the Giallorossi will win 2-1 and take the Scudetto too. Inter don’t convince me.”
