Lazio Coach Vladimir Petkovic believes his team is “more complete” this season and can beat Juventus for the Italian Super Cup.
The match is at the Stadio Olimpico on August 18, as the Coppa Italia winners host Scudetto holders Juve.
“We want to win the Super Cup, as we start the season trying to amaze and surprise. We need to focus on dominating our opponent at all times, no matter who they are.
“Antonio Conte did not name us as one of the title contenders, but he’s right because we were only eighth last season.
“Now the side is more complete with a bigger squad. It’s not over yet, though, as someone could arrive and others could leave,” said Petkovic at his Press conference.
“Last season we were doing so well until fatigue set in, as we weren’t accustomed to playing so often and with such a lot of pressure.
“I told the new players they must not feel the anxiety of proving themselves straight away. I have patience and must help them settle in.”
PSG continue to declare their interest in Hernanes, although Lazio are adamant he will remain.
“He’s on vacation right now and it’s only right that we leave him to rest. Has the club reassured me? We all know the transfer market is unpredictable. By my calculations Hernanes will start training with us on July 26.”
Petkovic is similarly patient with regards to his own contract situation, as his deal expires in June 2014.
“At the moment it is not a priority. We’re going to continue like this and I have to confirm my good work. Lazio gave me so much and the opportunity to work on an important stage. Now we’ll go forward together to achieve even more.”
