Pescara President Daniele Sebastiani has confirmed his club are close to landing Belgian international striker Jelle Vossen.
The newly promoted Delfini have been increasingly active of late, signing Vladimir Weiss from Manchester City, Manuele Blasi from Lecce and Jonathas from Brescia, to name just a few.
The last piece of the jigsaw was believed to be a striker, with Sebastiani stating on Tuesday that “Pescara will bring in an important player to focus their attack upon.”
That player, initially thought to be Jonathas, now appears to be Vossen, a 23-year-old forward who plays for Genk in the Jupiler League.
“Vossen? Yes, he is our goal,” Sebastiani revealed in conversation with Sky Sport Italia. “We are quite far forward and hope to conclude the transaction shortly.”
Vossen was the second top scorer in the Belgian top flight with 21 goals last season and also netted against Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen in the group stages of the Champions League.
His signature will not necessarily signal the end of Pescara's transfer campaign however, with Sebastiani admitting a swoop for Lazio winger Pasquale Foggia could take place, before dismissing the possibility of recruiting Napoli's Eduardo Vargas.
“Giovanni Stroppa likes Foggia a lot. We will evaluate the situation in the next few days. Vargas is a major player, he's had some difficulty settling in but has great quality. But we're following attackers with other characteristics.”
Sebastiani concluded with praise for Marco Verratti, the teenage regista he sold to Paris Saint-Germain last month and who has now been selected by Cesare Prandelli for Italy's friendly against England next week. “It does not surprise me to see him in the national team. He has important qualities.”
Pescara drew 1-1 in a friendly with Genoa at the Stadio Adriatico last night, Gianluca Caprari putting the Serie B champs ahead, the Rossoblu's Ze Eduardo levelling.
