Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has claimed that Manchester United approached Carlo Ancelotti to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Scottish manager retired from the game last summer, and insisted that he hand-picked then Everton boss David Moyes to be the new man in charge at Old Trafford.
But the Blancos chief has revealed that the Premier League outfit actually went to the Italian, before he opted for the Spanish capital.
“I’m absolutely sure [they did],” Pérez told the Spanish radio station Cope when asked if United wanted Ancelotti as their manager.
“Not this year, but last year. Ferguson asked him to succeed him.”
