Giampaolo Pazzini reveals how his exchange with Antonio Cassano came about. “You can’t say no to Milan.”
The former Inter striker made the transfer across San Siro for €7m plus FantAntonio and held his first Press conference today.
“The first sensations are excellent and it was a quick negotiation process. I am very happy, as Milan are the top and you can’t say no to Milan.
“I am really eager to do well, motivated and want to get back to being the player I was up until five months ago, when I was also a key figure in the Nazionale.
“Straight away I can bring enthusiasm and hunger. I aim to start on the right foot against Sampdoria on Sunday, even if everyone knows the rapport I had with the fans there.”
Leaving Samp in January 2011 proved to be a bad decision, as the team was relegated and his spell at Inter has been disappointing. Pazzini admits he never hid the fact he wasn’t entirely happy about that move.
“I was honest, as I wasn’t expecting it. The choice was made by Sampdoria and I respected it. My conscience is clear. As for Inter, I received a phone call the day before the team presentation for this season telling me I wasn’t part of their plans.
“I don’t wish to cause controversy, as I received many positive messages from my former teammates. The rest is no longer important.
“I was joking with Cassano and told him he needs me to end up on the front pages of the newspapers! He remains a great player and all I can say is that I’m very happy to be here. I don’t know why he wasn’t.
“I’ve found another old friend here, as I’ve known Riccardo Montolivo since we were children in the Atalanta youth academy. It was strange, yet wonderful, to see him here.”
