Inter can breathe a sigh of relief as defender Benjamin Pavard has started training with the squad ahead of their match against Lazio.

The 27-year-old French defender quickly impressed in the Lombardy capital after making a €30m move from Bayern Munich in the summer, slotting in well in Simone Inzaghi’s backline.

Pavard suffered a patellar tendon dislocation in the 33rd minute of Inter’s 2-1 win over Atalanta at the start of November, an injury that’s kept him on the sidelines for the last five weeks. Finally, the Frenchman can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Page 18 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Pavard partially returned to squad training at Appiano Gentile on Wednesday, completing some of the exercises with his teammates before splitting off to carry out personalised work.

He is expected to repeat this schedule today, before ending the week with two squad training sessions under Inzaghi. He is aiming to be fit in time for Sunday’s clash with Lazio, where he’s unlikely to start but could come off the bench.
