West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna believes there’s “less pressure” in England compared to Italy.

The centre-back moved to the Hammers from Juventus this summer, and spoke to the Italian society at King’s College London yesterday.

“Everything is more relaxed,” Ogbonna explained, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“There isn’t the pressure of Serie A. We [Italians] work more though, training sessions every day and double sessions once a week, whereas here we often rest on Wednesday.

“There’s more respect on the pitch.

“Difficulties? The language. Although I have Nigerian roots, I’ve always been in Italy. The other thing that makes me think is the less sociable nature of the British. It’s not easy to establish human relationships.”

Ogbonna then reflected on his time at Juventus, and names Paul Pogba as the best player he’s played with.

“Here [in England] the skipper has great personality. He’s a leader. In Italy sometimes they choose the captain for reasons other than personality.

“[Gigi] Buffon is an English-style captain, he knows how to shake-up the dressing room and pull the team forward.

“Pogba is the best talent I had as a teammate. Buffon and [Andrea] Pirlo are two champions. [Fabio] Quagliarella has extraordinary ability.”
